This is my contribution to Redux’s annual fundraising auction.  I love Picasso’s La Baigneuse at MOMA, and I decided to use that as starting point for a fun, colorful, small painting.

Event details: 7th Annual Art Auction
Saturday November 21st, 2009
6:30 pm – 10 pm, bidding begins at 8:00 pm

Charleston Center for Photography
(654 King Street, Suite D)

Heather Poe, Mary Cheney and child
4 feet by 6 feet - acrylic, mixed media on canvas – 2009
Explores visual representations of motherhood and the family unit by referencing traditional mother and child paintings and then superimposing Heather Poe and former Vice-President Dick Cheney’s daughter, Mary, a lesbian couple, who have come under fire by conservatives as well as the gay community, for having a child in-vitro.

Pottery Barn Art  — lighthearted observations on mass-produced art and the desire to match art to decor at the expense of a fully independent visual statement.

These two black and white photographs were turned into duotone images using “official” Pottery Barn paint chip colors found in the Pottery Barn catalogs.  The paint chips let you recreate the same wall colors as shown in the catalog…  So now the art that you purchase can REALLY match…

The photograph is small in in the online edition, but appeared — as below — large and full-framed in the print edition…
